Abstract

Summary Schifter, H. 1994. Dispersal and nomadism in mousebirds (Coliidae). Ostrich 65: 74–78. A review of published records and unpublished observations from various sources reveals that mouse-birds (Coliidae) are not strictly sedentary. Although the six species of mousebirds cannot be classed as migratory birds, regular local movements occur in some regions, and nomadism may occur in response to fluctuating food resources. Dispersal is frequently influenced by man-made changes in habitat, and human settlement and agricultura practices may also facilitate range expansion and bring about contact between previously allopatric populations.
