Abstract
Previously proposed models for the formation of dislocation dipoles in deformed crystals are examined and found to be unsatisfactory. An alternative model, based on the interaction between two mixed dislocations on parallel slip planes, is proposed. This model is found to be in good quantitative and qualitative agreement with experimental observations previously reported.
