(1999). This contribution was based on the correlation of the magnetic polarity stratigraphy (MPS) for several partial stratigraphic sections recording the Paleogene marine succession throughout a north-south transect of 25 km in the Vic area (northeast Spain). The new chronostratigraphic proposal by Taberner et al. (1999) is in contradiction with earlier biostratigraphic studies of the area based on larger foraminifera, implying a shift of ∼5 m.y. (range, 4.8–6.4 m.y.) in the age of the earliest marine sediments. Furthermore,...
