Abstract
Fifty years ago, in 1973 temporal optical solitons were predicted by Hasegawa and Tappert, highlighting the possibilities of balancing dispersive and nonlinear effects in optical fibers. The next decade followed by similar advances on spatial and discrete solitons. This article brings perspectives and current research on topological photonics.
