Abstract

Diceroprocta azteca (Kirkaldy) is a bright green and brown cicada reported in the United States from a number of counties in central Texas (Davis 1917; Bibby 1936) and central Oklahoma (Drew, Spangler and Molnar 1974), but not previously reported from Kansas (A. Sanborn, pers. comm.). In July of 2008, I discovered a population of Diceroprocta azteca at Slate Creek Wildlife Area in south central Kansas, providing the first Kansas record of this species as well as some of the first detailed observations concerning its natural history.
