Generally speaking, perception includes individuals’ subjectivity in terms of how they see or assess the characteristics of a phenomenon. Risk perception is vital to understanding what risks people consider to be acceptable, and what risk reduction programs have a better chance of being accepted. Risk perception is influenced by a variety of factors including the kind of information available and how that information is processed; the personality and emotional state of the perceiver; their personal experiences and prejudices; and socio-economic factors, to name but a few. Risk perception, risk tolerance, and high or low risk-taking behaviors are all interconnected. The nature and consequences of a potential threat, as well as its proximity, also contribute to how it is perceived by society. In this era of social media, the media is vital to ensuring that disaster news is covered more objectively. This chapter includes survey-based studies conducted in Canada as powerful testimonies to the importance of risk perception among various groups, including average citizens and emergency managers.

The problems must be answered in this research is how to know about the characteristics of tellers work in the era of social media in PT. Bank Mandiri (Persero) Jakarta Cikini Area? The problem is answered through of the following questions. How does the diversity of teller to work about that skills in the social media era? How does the identity of teller work in the social media era? How does significant is the teller job in the social media era? How does the autonomy of teller work in the social media era? How does the feedback teller work in the social media era? This is research using by qualitative method is conducting direct interview (face-to-face) with teller. This research interviewed who is a teller working at PT. Bank Mandiri in Area Jakarta Cikini. The results show that the characteristics of teller work in social media era are found in the diversity of skills, task identity, task significance, task autonomy and feedback. The essence of the character of the work is in a teller who had multi tasking, choosing job priorities, prioritizing work from beginning to end, focusing on the work area, and the good interaction with the meaning of the job. So from this research, the tellers who work at this time. No longer enter at eight in the morning until four in the afternoon with a count of five working days, but seven working days in twenty-four hours. Besides that, also teller function also as Public Relation. The suggestions for future improvement is the management or the holder of the human resources authority of PT. Bank Mandiri (Persero), especially Area Jakarta Cikini, need to do deconstruction (redefinition) to the work of teller so as to accommodate the dynamics of the task of teller in the era of social media where the existing job description can be done review. In addition, education and training are continuously updated and upgraded to support the characteristics of their work in the era of social media because tellers are not only serving customers during working hours, but also functioning as public relations.

New media have amplified fan–athlete interaction significantly and irrevocably. Social media tools like Facebook and Twitter have facilitated quicker and more instantaneous exchanges between fans and athletes, but fan–athlete relationships have incubated for some time due to a host of other Internet-enabled technologies like listservs, chat rooms, community forums, and web logs ("blogs") (Hambrick, Simmons, Greenhalgh and Greenwell, 2010). Risk Perception and Risk Tolerance In Aircraft Pilots

: Poor pilot decision-making has been identified as a factor in a large percentage of fatal aviation accidents. Risk perception and risk tolerance are two factors that can significantly impact pilot decision-making. Inaccurate risk perception can lead pilots to ignore or misinterpret external cues that demand immediate and effective decisions to avoid hazards. High risk tolerance can lead pilots to choose courses of action that unnecessarily expose them to hazards and increased likelihood of accident. Risk perception and risk tolerance are related and often confounded constructs. This study sought to separate these two constructs and to develop and evaluate measures that could be used to compare individual pilots on the constructs. A large sample of pilots visiting a government web site completed two risk perception, and three risk tolerance measures. They also completed a short scale assessing their involvement in hazardous aviation events and provided demographic information. Analysis of the data showed that the five new measures demonstrated acceptable internal consistency, The measures of risk perception were only mildly related to risk tolerance, suggesting that these are separate constructs. As hypothesized, pilot perception of risk was negatively related to risk tolerance. In addition, risk perception demonstrated a small, but significant, correlation with self-reported involvement in hazardous aviation events. However, contrary to expectations, risk tolerance was not significantly related to hazardous events. The results suggest that it is differences in cognitive skills required for accurate risk perception that place pilots are greater likelihood of accident involvement, rather than differences in underlying personality traits related to risk tolerance. The implications of the findings are discussed, along with limitations on the generalizability of the results, and suggestions for future research to improve the measurement scales are given.

The Influence of Celebrity Endorsements on Consumer Behavior in the Era of Social Media

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of celebrity endorsements on consumer behaviour in the era of social media.
 Methodology: The study adopted a desktop research methodology. Desk research refers to secondary data or that which can be collected without fieldwork. Desk research is basically involved in collecting data from existing resources hence it is often considered a low cost technique as compared to field research, as the main cost is involved in executive’s time, telephone charges and directories. Thus, the study relied on already published studies, reports and statistics. This secondary data was easily accessed through the online journals and library.
 Findings: The findings revealed that there exists a contextual and methodological gap relating to the influence of celebrity endorsements on consumer behaviour in the era of social media. Preliminary empirical review revealed that in the dynamic era of social media, it is clear that celebrity endorsements continue to play a pivotal role in influencing consumer behavior. However, the evolving nature of this influence demands that brands and marketers stay attuned to changing consumer preferences, cultural nuances, and the authenticity of endorsements. As social media platforms and consumer behavior continue to evolve, so too will the strategies and approaches used in leveraging celebrity endorsements to shape consumer choices and behaviors.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: The Social Identity Theory (SIT), Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) and the Parasocial Interaction Theory (PIT) may be used to anchor future studies on consumer behaviours. The study made the following recommendations: leveraging authenticity and transparency; considering micro-influencers; monitoring of celebrity behaviour on social media; leveraging data analytics and diversifying marketing channels.

Risk attitudes and risk perceptions in individuals with multiple sclerosis

BackgroundLittle is known about risk attitudes and risk perceptions in multiple sclerosis (MS).ObjectivesThe objectives of this paper are to investigate the range of risk attitudes and risk perceptions and examine associations between risk attitudes and risk perceptions and demographic and clinical features of the disease.MethodsA total of 223 individuals completed a risk questionnaire. Risk attitude was measured using two rating scales and a standard gamble scenario. Risk perception was measured by asking participants to estimate the likelihood of disease progression and the likelihood of minor and serious side effects associated with common MS therapies.ResultsParticipants were risk neutral overall and risk averse on issues related to health and safety. There was a significant association between disease duration and risk attitude, with patients with longer disease duration showing greater tolerance for risk. On the standard gamble scenario, males were significantly more likely to take treatments with a likelihood of death of 1:10,000 or 1:100,000 than females. Individuals with higher disability or a progressive disease course were significantly more likely to expect progression at two, five and 10 years.ConclusionIndividuals with MS demonstrate low tolerance for risk. Risk attitudes and perceptions are influenced by some demographic and clinical features of the disease.

Shifting Muslim Gorontalo Family Commitments in the Era of Social Media: A Socio-Legal Approach

In the era of social media, the current reality has led to a deviation in individual behavior within families. Family systems relying heavily on technology have shifted from traditional to modern. The research aims to explain why social media can lead to divorce in Gorontalo Religious Court. This study constitutes empirical research (field research). The research was meticulously conducted through direct fieldwork. The approach employed in this study is a social approach. The researcher directly investigates and deeply describes the commitment of married couples in household life and the influence of social media. To obtain valid data, the researcher used observation techniques for data collection. The researcher observed within the scope of scientific activities during the observation activities. In this case, the researcher observed 10 pairs of Muslim families in the city of Gorontalo, focusing on how the commitment of Gorontalo Muslim families has shifted. The number of respondents interviewed by the researcher was approximately 10 Muslim families, consisting of 5 husbands and 5 wives each. Finally, Documentation collected data from Gorontalo Religious Court judgments on divorces during 2021. Results of the research found that social media has an impact on two things, namely: 1) the fragility of Gorontalo Muslim family commitments due to tolerance of extramarital behavior in Gorontalo Muslim families, and 2) a shift in divorce orientation among Gorontalo Muslim families, where about 13.8% of divorce cases are caused by infidelity through social media.

A Survey of the Citizen’s Perception of Government Accountability in the Era of Social Media in Nigeria

The advent of social media in recent times has increased the ways through which the citizenry can hold its government accountable. This study on a survey of the citizen’s perception of government accountability in the era of social media in Nigeria examined two specific objectives which are to ascertain the extent of citizen’s perception of government accountability in the era of social media and to determine the relationship between socioeconomic profile and citizen’s perception of government accountability in social media era in Nigeria. Google form was deployed to various social media platforms for data collection and analysis. The data came in from 150 respondents, downloaded and used. Principal factor analysis and linear regression model were the analytical tools used to achieve the study objectives. The study found that the average age and family sizes were 48 years and 9 people respectively. The average monthly income was 159.09 USD. The extent of citizen’s perception was rotated into three and named as online fear, power of social media, and information availability factors which explained 58.58% total variation in citizen’s perception. The study further found that age, household size, employment status, and monthly income of the respondents were the socioeconomic variables relating to the citizen’s perception in the study area. Seeing that social media is a means to hold the leaders accountable in recent times, the study, therefore, recommends that social media and its platforms should be embraced by our leaders rather than restricting its use in Nigeria.

A Tale of Two Trends: The Characteristics of Linguistic Sexism in the Era of Social Media and Its Effects on Gender Equity

This paper introduced the manifestations and formation of traditional linguistic sexism in the English world, elaborated on the new characteristics of linguistic sexism in the era of social media, and analyzed the effects of social media on linguistic sexism and gender equity. In general, social media makes gender equality present two trends. On the new characteristics, social media has reshaped linguistic sexism deeply in two ways: one is the anonymity of social media that has changed the traditional communication mechanism and incited hostile linguistic sexism; the other is social medias openness and interactivity that has increased the risk of linguistic sexism as well as the quarrel over gender issues. On the prospect of gender equity in the era of social media, this paper concluded two effects: one is the promotion of gender equity awareness, and the other is the risk of group polarization of attitudes towards gender issues

A New Perspective of E-Trust in the Era of Social Media: Insights From Customer Satisfaction Data

In this era of social media, products and services are sold globally using a few simple clicks online. In such online purchases, trust and familiarity are considered two important driving forces of consumer decision making. While online sales advocate high levels of flexibility and choices for consumers, they also hold the online service provider responsible for ensuring the security of the online user’s data. Using a Structural Equation Model (SEM) with data collected from the online service industry, we test the direct effects of ‘social media-induced purchase intention’ on customer satisfaction. We also test the mediating role of e-commerce/online sales (e-advertisement, e-safety and e-information) on customer satisfaction. In addition to social media advertising and information sharing, we find that a new factor – ‘e-safety’ – mediates the relationship between customer purchase intention and customer satisfaction. Our analysis indicates that online e-trust can be established between the customer and the service company when online purchases are made. At the same time, the quality of online information and e-safety of online payments make the service company trustworthy for future purchases. We relate data analysis directly to managerial decision making to avoid any delay in online customer services in the era of social media.

Occupation, driving experience, and risk and accident perception

A study on risk perception and causal explanations of road accidents was conducted on 553 subjects with various kinds of experience and knowledge about traffic and automobile driving. Accident and risk perception was studied by means of three independent variables: the subjects' occupation, driving experience, and accident history. The results showed that all categories of subjects were inclined to overestimate the threat represented by the risk of a road accident. Furthermore, all subjects tended to make more external causal attributions that defended their role in traffic safety and accident prevention. Experienced drivers, but also less experienced ones, exhibited a higher level of risk-taking than other subjects, and also made more external and fatalistic causal attributions. Finally, accident history does not seem to have a notable effect on accident and risk perception, but it does appear to result in more cautious behaviour. The findings are discussed in terms of their possible contribution to accident diagnosis and prevention.

Can socioeconomic factors and the availability of medicinal plant resources influence people's perception of risk in relation to diseases?

BackgroundThis study explores how socioeconomic factors and the availability of medicinal plant resources influence the perception of disease risk in a local medical system. It addresses the role of traditional knowledge and the care and prevention practices used by the community, highlighting the interactions between cultural, social and environmental aspects.MethodsThe research was conducted in the community of Serra Grande, Lagoa do Ouro, Pernambuco, with 95 participants. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to collect data on socioeconomic factors, perceived risk of disease (using ranking and Likert scale), and perceived availability of medicinal plants. The data were analyzed with Generalized Linear Models using R software.ResultsAge was the only socioeconomic factor with a significant influence on the perception of risk of disease, being higher among individuals aged between 51 and 70. In addition, the results indicated that the perception of risk of disease is negatively influenced by the availability of medicinal plant resources, i.e., a lower availability of plants is associated with a higher perception of risk. 117 species of medicinal plants used by the community were identified, with the Fabaceae and Lamiacae families standing out.ConclusionsThe study highlights the complexity of risk perception in rural communities, influenced by social, cultural and environmental factors. Effective public health policies must integrate these dynamics, creating adaptive strategies that strengthen community resilience and preserve traditional knowledge and resources essential for health.

Age and Time Need Not and Should Not Be Eliminated From the Coronary Risk Prediction Models

Risk assessment, risk communication, and risk management are 3 fundamental steps in the primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD). Consequently, national and international guidelines1–4 have been formulated to assist clinicians in providing standardized care for treating coronary risk factors. These guidelines are consistent with the best available scientific evidence on risks of developing CHD and potential strategies to reduce those risks via nonpharmacological and pharmacological interventions. One of the critical concepts on which contemporary guidelines are founded is the notion that the choice and intensity of an intervention strategy should in part be based on the underlying risk—ie, the absolute risk of experiencing a CHD event during a short-term period. This is typically estimated as the 10-year risk of CHD for a man or a woman of a specific age.1,3,4 In this issue of Circulation , Ridker and Cook5 present an argument to eliminate both the age and the time dependency of CHD risk prediction algorithms. On the basis of the objectives of current guidelines and risk prediction algorithms, we disagree with the suggestion made by Ridker and Cook. We submit that not only is removal of age and time from the risk prediction equations not necessary, but, to the contrary, such removal may be inappropriate. Furthermore, as we demonstrate below, the objectives desired by Ridker and Cook are already available with the existing prediction algorithms and often have been incorporated into the standard use of the current guidelines.
