Abstract
This chapter discusses developments in the policies and practices relating to disabled children in the Nordic countries during the last five decades. These policies and practices did not evolve in isolation but rather at the intersection of a number of policy areas. They were affected by changes in disability policy in general, by developments in family policy and welfare policy and also by trends in the international professional community. Thus, even though the focus of the chapter is on policies and practices regarding disabled children, the idea is to relate them to the context in which they evolved.
