Abstract

Motile responses of cochlear hair cells open new perspectives for the understanding of cochlear hearing mechanisms and of hearing disorders located in hair cells. Direct visualization of hair cell motility was achieved by video-assisted studies of isolated mammalian outer hair cells (OHC) which have overcome some of the complexities in dealing with the heterogenous organ of Corti.
