Abstract

AbstractIncorporating the dipolar contribution and using density matrix analysis, the linear and nonlinear opti‐ cal susceptibilities are calculated in polar organic crystal. The dipolar contribution successfully explains the origin of ordinary and the extraordinary refractive indices of polar materials in the infrared regime. The results are applied to a sample of Urea. The calculated values of the refractive indices, hyperpolarizability and second‐order optical susceptibility are well in agreement with the experimentally reported values.
