Abstract

This paper deals with development of a knowledge base system to assist the decision-making of control commands for the decentralized load frequency control (LFC) in multi-area power system. Empirical knowledges are identified to determine the decentralized control law based on the modern control theory and the controller designing expertise. Extracted knowledges have been expressed in the form of the production rule. The proposed knowledge base system consists of five basic components; a working memory, a load change estimator, an inference engine, a knowledge base and a data base connected with algorithmic software packages. The decentralized control scheme supported by the knowledge base system was applied to six-area power system model. It was shown that introduction of such a knowledge base system is capable to materialize a more flexible and robust control system hitherto unavailable from the conventional fixed controller structure.
