Abstract

A mechanistic model that calculates Cr diffusion for Cr-coated Zircaloy cladding based on Finite Difference Method (FDM) has been developed and validated. The developed model has been incorporated into TRANOX 2.0. The Cr-coated cladding was divided into multilayers (Zr, ZrCr2 and Cr), and chromium diffusion coefficients of each phase were obtained by experiments. The prediction of the model was validated with Cr distribution measured by EPMA through extensive high temperature annealing experiments conducted in the temperature range of 1000–1300 °C. The developed model can predict diffusional loss coating thickness of Cr-coated Accident Tolerant Fuel.
