Abstract
The increasing penetration of distributed generations (DGs) challenges the reliability and safety operation of distribution networks. Conventional relay protection schemes usually ignore the detail features of DGs as well as the power electronics interfaces. Besides, the conventional communication technology cannot meet the requirements of modern power systems. For these reasons, a differential protection scheme based on 5G communication technology considering the transient characteristics of DGs is proposed in this paper. The parameters and the communication structure for the protection is designed. Moreover, the relay protections using different communication technology have been compared. Simulation results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed protection scheme.
