Abstract

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the most common mental health disorder, twice more prevalent in women than in men. It is strongly associated with dementia, cardiovascular disease, and increased mortality. Epigenetic factors, including DNA methylation (DNAm), play an important role in the etiology of MDD. However, sex-specificity has not been explored.
