Abstract

It has been suggested in previous investigations that certain combinations of high-energy cross sections obey ener power laws of a type obtained from the multiperipheral model, This model is shown here to predict the right sign for the known differences between high-energy cross sections, provided that in the low-energy region sigma /sub 0/( pi /sup -/ pi /sup +/)> sigma / sub 0/( pi /sup +/ pi /sup +/), sigma /sub 0/( pi /sup -/K/sup +/) > sigma /sub 0/( i/sup +/K/sup +/), and sigma /sub 0/(KK) > sigma /sub 0/(KK). (H.D.R. It has also been pointed out that this is likely to be true
