Abstract

Lead-free ceramics (1-x)(K0.48Na0.52)(Nb0.98Sb0.02)O3–xBiScO3 + 0.8 mol % MnCO3 have been fabricated by conventional sintering technique. The results of X-ray diffraction suggest that all samples show pure perovskite structure and the structure changes from orthorhombic to tetragonal with the increase of BiScO3. At room temperature, the polymorphic phase transition (PPT) from orthorhombic to tetragonal phases was identified. With the increase in BiScO3 content, both the cubic–tetragonal and tetragonal–orthorhombic phase transitions shift to lower temperatures; hence, the dielectric and piezoelectric properties are significantly enhanced. As a result, the ceramic with x=0.015 exhibits the following optimum properties: d33=265 pC/N, kp=0.509, kt=0.503, εr =1409, tan δ=0.034.
