Abstract

Spinal metastasis of the lumbar spine with destruction of the vertebral body generally require a combined anterior-posterior surgical approach for adequate anterior decompression, replacement of the vertebral body and posterior transpeduncular stabilization. A new method is developed to perform the decompression as well as the transpeduncular stabilization from a single anterior approach. The technique provides a stability comparable with the conventional bilateral instrumentation and the experience with 9 patients who underwent this kind of operation showed the safety and efficacy of the procedure. Key words: Vertebral body resection — Transpeduncular stabilisation
