Abstract

The basic equations of the space charge field yield for thex-component of the electron velocity-vector in a planar diode a non-linear differential equation of the third degree and third order. This differential equation and its solution can be used to calculate—without the integration of the Poisson equation—the transit times of electrons, the cathode field, the potential and the electron paths as a function of two reduced parameters alone for all values of the initial velocity and current under partial and complete space charge. The generality of the solution is discussed and other applications of the new method used are stated.
