Abstract

The title compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P 1 with 4 molecules per unit cell with the lattice parameters: a = 1357, b = 1352, c = 1333 pm, α = 90.50°, β = 94.44° and γ = 85.83°. Using X-ray diffraction data collected on a four circle diffractometer, the structure was solved by means of three-dimensional Patterson- an Fourier-syntheses. The refinement by the method of least-squares with a block-diagonal matrix let to a reliability index of R = 5.9% for the 2724 observed reflections. The structure is built up from molecules having the characteristic structure of methylidynetricobaltnonacarbonyl cluster compounds with triangular cluster unit of cobalt atoms (mean distance C  Co: 247 pm) each coordinated by three terminal carbonyl groups (mean distance Co  Co: 175; C  O: 116 pm). The three cobalt atoms are bound with an apical CO-group (mean distance Co  CO: 189; C  O; 133 pm), which carries the BCl 2N(C 2H 5) 3 -ligand on the oxygen atom.
