Abstract
The genus Messa Leach contains 9 species in the Holarctic region. The 6 palaearctic species have been revised. Messa septentrionalis spec. nov. is described as new in this genus. The nearctic Messa alaskana (Kincaid) is compared with the palaearctic M. wuestneii (Konow) and M. septentrionalis and is resynonymized. A key to the palaearctic species of this genus is provided. Fenusa steusloffi Konow is the type-species of the new genus Neomessa gen. nov., All species are described, illustrated and their relationship is discussed.
