Abstract

Some examples are given on how to make use of a plant collection in biological research. Despite their undisputed great value for modern research in systematics and taxonomy there is evidence that often plant collections are not maintained and used in taxonomic research as they should be. This is closely related to the fact that molecular biology in recent years has opened many new fields of research thus regrettably deflecting taxonomy from the mainstream of scientific activity.
