ABSTRACT Amidst the deepening ecological crisis of capitalism, Western eco-Marxism has delivered a profound and pathological diagnosis yet remains trapped in a “practical vacuum,” unable to offer curative solutions. In stark contrast, the “Two Mountains Theory,” born of China's practical experience and at the core of Xi Jinping's Ecological Civilisation thought, has spearheaded a sweeping socialist ecological practice over the past two decades. This paper aims to establish a critical dialogue between the two, arguing that the “Two Mountains Theory” not only resonates with the former in its critique of the logic of capital but also answers the historical question of “how to achieve” through its “socialist dialectics of praxis.” This approach leverages state capacity to master rather than submit to capital. We contend that the “Two Mountains Theory” signifies an emerging socialist ecological pathway. Transcending utopian visions, it offers tangible insights into struggle and institutional references for the global left contemplating ecological transformation.

  • Wei Zhang + 1 more

Under the guidance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, the ecological practice of Wenzhou in the new era was deeply studied. With the help of literature analysis, this paper first summarizes the main content and importance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, and points out that this thought is an important part of the development of Socialism with Chinese characteristics's great cause, with a strong background of the times and realistic orientation. Secondly, the article analyzes the main practice of ecological civilization construction in Wenzhou in the new era, and highlights the specific application of the concept of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", such as focusing on promoting the development of green industries and vigorously improving environmental quality. Thirdly, from the perspective of the combination of theory and practice, the article explains in detail how Wenzhou carries out its practice according to Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, and thus reveals its internal logic and realization path. Finally, combining with Wenzhou's concrete practice, this paper deeply interprets the theoretical and practical significance of Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought in the new era. It is emphasized that adhering to and developing the idea of ecological civilization and promoting the construction of ecological civilization is an important path to promote the all-round development of economy and society and realize the goal of a well-off society in an all-round way. Generally speaking, this study comprehensively and deeply discusses the problem that Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought leads Wenzhou's ecological practice in the new era from the two dimensions of theory and practice, which has strong theoretical guidance and practical reference value.

Scholars from all over the world pay attention to the study of ecological protection and construction. The authors compare the quality of three villages'ecological environment in Zhouqu County, and their different views and behavior on local ecological environment, then look into the different ecological culture of the three villages through field survey and in-depth interviews with local residents. It indicates that there is some certain relation between ecological view and local ecological environment. Then the paper explains why the three villages'ecological environment is different in an ecological perspective. Zhouqu's Tibetan residents accumulate a large number of ecological culture and form unique view on local ecological environment, which is adapted to local ecological environment. This view on local ecological environment is of great significance, which is worth to study and excavate its cultural value for ecological protection and construction. It forms a virtuous cycle and mutual symbiotic mechanism between Zhouqu County's ecological environment and local residents'ecological view. The paper summarizes Zhouqu County's Tibetan ecological culture, which includes Bon ecological culture and Tibetan Buddhism ecological culture. Bon ecological culture contains nature worship and taboos. Tibetan Buddhism ecological culture stresses the concept of transmigration. However, both Bon ecological culture and Tibetan Buddhism ecological culture emphasize the immortality of the soul. Although it has strong myth color and unscientific component, the view on the protection of ecological environment and keeping harmony relationships between human and nature, adapts to natural rules and developmental trend, so it has practical significance. Then the authors point out that it exits an interaction between culture and geographical environment. Under the special plateau environment, Tibetan ancestors live on husbandry and meet their needs of daily life with limited forests, water, animals and other natural resources, so they attach great importance to the fragile ecological environment and rare natural resources. This way of life gradually influences local residents'ideology and spirit. Thus They protect local environment actively, try their best to adapt local geographic environment, and form a virtuous cycle between human and environment. During their long-term life, they accumulate unique ecological culture. In turn, this culture influence local geographical environment invisibly. Finally, this paper indicates that it is important to protect ecological environment in a ecological cultural perspective in local and similar area, and keep harmony relationships between human and nature. To solve ecological problems fundamentally, it is necessary to set up a new scientific ecological view by combining traditional Tibetan ecological culture with modern culture. 参考文献 相似文献 引证文献

The article is devoted to the problem of preparing future specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ecology for professional activity by means of information and communication technologies. The concept of "ecological culture", which is considered as a basic element of the system of environmental education, equips a person with the necessary knowledge about the peculiarities of the interaction of society and nature, the course of natural processes, the influence of anthropogenic loads on them and the adverse consequences of such influence, is considered in detail. This especially applies to civil defense specialists who, by virtue of their professional duties, must possess not only specialized knowledge and skills, but also a developed environmental culture. Ecological culture contributes to the development of an ecologically oriented strategy of life and regulates the attitude to the natural environment by moral and scientific means. The basis of the formation of ecological culture is ecological education and upbringing, therefore, precisely in the process of professional training, it is most appropriate to instill ecological culture. The formation of ecological culture should take place by involving specialists in active, creative activities. Such education should be carried out in an active form, using "direct contact" with the natural environment. Specialists should qualitatively build the educational process, select such material that will be understood by the audience and reinterpreted in a valuable way by it, which will contribute to the formation of socially valuable motives in the attitude to nature, instilling the necessary abilities and skills of interaction with the natural environment, raising the level of environmental culture in general. Summarizing what has been said, it should be said that the level of environmental culture of specialists remains low and society needs to intensify the process of forming an ecological culture by means of formal and informal environmental education and training. Environmental education is represented by a system of knowledge aimed at mastering the theory and practice of general ecology, and includes elements of geographical, socio-economic, technical and legal fields of knowledge. Environmental culture of a person is a complex psychological formation, which consists of a system of knowledge, practical abilities and skills, beliefs and learned norms of interaction with the environment. Ecological culture as a basic element of the system of environmental education equips a person with the necessary knowledge about the peculiarities of the interaction of society and nature, the course of natural processes, the influence of anthropogenic loads on them and the adverse consequences of such influence.

Moving Towards “Ecological Civilization” in the Anthropocene: The Future of Environmental Law in China
  • Jan 1, 2019
  • Di Zhou

The widespread environmental degradation caused by human activities has resulted in the advent of a new era: the Anthropocene. In responding to this dramatic change, the system of rules regulating human behaviors should be reshaped. In the process of self-reflection on its ecological crisis, China has developed the idea of a transition to an “ecological civilization”. Therefore, environmental law in China will play a crucial role in this process which requires a thorough re-examination and transformation of existing law and institutions. This chapter is comprised of three sections. First, the strategy of “ecological civilization” initiated by the Chinese government and its relevance to the Anthropocene are discussed. The concept of the Anthropocene and ecological civilization both require adjustment in humans’ attitudes towards nature and human interactions with nature. Next, the chapter examines the three main challenges to the transformations of environmental law in China in moving towards “ecological civilization”. The interactions between the rules of supra-national, national and local levels constitutes the first challenge. It is argued that efforts should be made both in ways of “top-down” and “bottom-up”. The second challenge is the coordination of the administrative and the party accountability mechanism in terms of implementation. Thirdly, fragmented rules on the legal standing for environmental litigation require systematization in order to enhance the access to environmental justice. The concluding section broadens the discussion to encourage legal scholars to adopt inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary methods to reposition the role of environmental law in China in a comprehensive and integrated way.

Analyses of the Research Status Quo of Xi Jinping's Thought on Ecological Civilization Based on Big Data Method
  • Sep 1, 2020
  • Cuijiao Jia + 1 more

Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization, as the guiding ideology of China's ecological civilization construction in the new era, has become one of the hot spots in the academic research. Applying the big data method with the help of VOSviewer and SmartAnalyze, the paper has performed a series of analyses of knowledge graph, including the annual publication trends, the subject term expression changes, the subject distribution, the authors co-occurrence and the keywords co-occurrence on 335 published papers from core journals and CSSCI periodicals database regarding the theme of Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization. By analyzing the knowledge map, we find that the quantity and quality of research literatures have the tendency of growth, and subject terms become more and more standardized, but the research perspective needs to be broadened. There are more and more exchanges and cooperation between the authors, but in low frequency. Their topics mainly centre around the five aspects of value, connotation, background, path and theory origin of Xi jinping's thought on ecological civilization.

Naturalized Violence: Affective Politics of China’s “Ecological Civilization” in Xinjiang
  • Jan 6, 2021
  • Human Ecology
  • Guldana Salimjan

As China entered a more “ecology-conscious” phase of development in 2012, the Chinese Communist Party utilized the slogan “ecological civilization” as part of its ideological framework of controlling borders, biopower, and resources. This case study from Northwestern China’s Xinjiang examines a national program of building “ecological civilization” that connects ethnic hierarchies, epistemic violence, and ecological imperialism. I argue that China’s utopian vision of building “ecological civilization” in Xinjiang is at the expense of excluding Indigenous populations as knowledge and stakeholders in resource management. Instead of improving livelihood and ecology, the rehabilitation-centric “ecological civilization” projects and ecotourism diminished local resilience and agency. The Chinese state capitalizes on pastoral landscape and labor through the powerful discourse of “ecological civilization” while the native community experiences grief for the loss of environment and landscape.

Integrating Ecological Civilization Philosophy into University Political Education: Theoretical Logic and Innovative Pathways — A Case Study
  • Sep 9, 2025
  • Journal of Education and Information Technology
  • Yang Kaiyue

To explore the theoretical logic and practical pathways for the deep integration of ecological civilization thought and university ideological and political education, this study takes the course Ideological and Moral Cultivation and the Rule of Law at East China University of Technology as a typical case. Employing a combined approach of theoretical analysis and practical verification, it systematically investigates the intrinsic connections and innovative mechanisms between these two domains. The research reveals that ecological civilization thought, grounded in three theoretical foundations—Marxist ecological philosophy, traditional Chinese ecological wisdom, and new-era ecological civilization theories—provides systematic methodological guidance for curriculum reform. At the practical level, a three-dimensional innovative pathway encompassing content system, teaching methodologies, and evaluation mechanisms has been constructed. This includes a curriculum framework integrating ecological ethics, ecological rule of law, and ecological practices; an intersubjective dialogic teaching model; and a multi-dimensional evaluation system covering cognition, values, and behaviors. The proposed three-dimensional collaborative education model and dual-spiral innovation mechanism effectively bridge theory and practice, offering a replicable empirical paradigm for cultivating ecologically literate citizens. This study not only promotes a paradigm shift in ideological and political education from social-centric to eco-social dual construction but also contributes theoretical and practical insights to the development of a distinctively Chinese ecological civilization education system.

China will enforce environmental policy more strictly
  • Apr 26, 2018
  • Emerald expert briefings

Subject The coming restructuring of the environment-related government organs. Significance An overhaul of China’s environmental bureaucracy announced at the National People's Congress last month shows that the government is committed to realising its 'ecological civilisation' agenda by improving environmental governance and enforcement. It aims to achieve this by reducing fragmentation between elite policymaking institutions and by a centralised, integrated and holistic approach to climate change and environmental and natural resources management. Impacts Businesses face regulatory uncertainty until at least the June deadline for finalising the new ministerial departments, and probably beyond. State capacity and willingness to enforce environmental rules strictly will increase. Pollution in water systems and air pollutants other than carbon dioxide will now receive more attention. The rollout of China’s national emissions trading scheme, which is already behind schedule, may be negatively affected.

Practice Model of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization
  • Dec 1, 2021
  • Chinese Journal of Urban and Environmental Studies
  • Kaizhong Yang

Ecological development is essentially the process of building a resource-efficient, environment-friendly and ecologically-safe society, and of achieving modernization that features harmonious coexistence between man and nature. Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization offers answers to such theoretical and practical questions as why to build an ecological civilization, what the goal is and how to achieve it. Its practice model focuses on explaining the norms, content, paths and methods of building an ecological civilization. It is a structural and operable approach for implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and guiding the construction of ecological civilization. As an intermediate link between Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and eco-civilization construction, the practice model is not only an indispensable part of the former, but also the key to combine the theory and practice concerning the two.
