Abstract
The preparations are reported of neutral and cationic (dialkylsufide)(η 6-arene)ruthenium(II) complexes of the types (η 6-arene)Cl 2Ru(SR 2), [(η 6-arene)ClRu(SR 2) 2] + and [(η 6-arene)ClRu(SR 2)(L)] +. These complexes containing labile R 2SRu bonds can be used in the ready generation of 16 electron ruthenium moieties for the activation of terminal alkynes and access to cationic (carbene)(η 6-arene)ruthenium(II) derivatives such as {(1,3,5-Me 3C 6H 3)ClRu(SMe 2)[C(OMe)CH 2Ph]} + and {(C 6Me 6)ClRu(PMe 3)[C(OMe)CH 2Ph]} +.
