Abstract
In the modern power transmission and distribution system cable plays a vital role. Most of the cables placed in the earth. The life expectancy of cable depends on various factors such as internal composition of fillers used with PVC and external factors temperature, moisture content of soil and chemical wastes. In this work, a different composition of SiO 2 nano filler added PVC insulation for electrical cables have been prepared. The dielectric properties like dielectric strength, partial discharge level and volume resistivity are measured with refer to respective standards has been experimentally determined to find the suitable composition of nanofiller for the loss free application. Similarly mechanical characteristic (tensile strength) is also measured for all the samples. The results have been analyzed and compared for PVC with 0 wt%, 2.5 wt%, and 5wt% SiO 2 nano filler. By the additions of nanofillers enhance the mechanical and electrical properties of PVC. From the results, it is found that only for 5wt % nano filler additives the PVC gained the better properties.
