Abstract
Overactive bladder (OAB) is a common condition with a significant functional impact in patients. To synthesize current knowledge on the definition, epidemiology and impact of OAB. A systematic literature review based on Pubmed, Embase, Google Scholar was conducted in June 2020. OAB is defined by urinary urgency, usually accompanied by frequency and nocturia, with or without urgency urinary incontinence, in the absence of urinary tract infection or other obvious pathology. In France, OAB affects 14% of the general population and this prevalence increases with age. This condition is a source of major deterioration in patients' quality of life with a physical (falls, fractures, sleep disorders, fatigue), psychic (anxiety, depression) social (limitation of leisure, isolation) and economic impact. The definition of OAB is standardized. OAB is a frequent condition and has significant functional consequences with a notable deterioration in quality of life.
