Abstract

ABSTRACTIn solar city, the demand for electrical energy for municipal utilities, residential sections, and transportation is generated by solar energy whether by centralized solar power plants or distributed rooftop photovoltaic systems. Although, the establishment of a perfect solar city requires several fundamental infrastructures, valuable progresses have been made in the recent years. The US has terrific solar resources across the country which enable the energy policy makers to decisively dedicate a considerable budget for development of solar energy towards solar city utopia. Major cities in the US play a crucial role in the sustainable energy revolution and stand to gather tremendous solar power benefits. Due to the centralized population, megacities are the main sources of electrical energy demand and with millions of rooftops suitable for installation of solar panels, they are capable to be the major sources of renewable and sustainable energy. This paper scrutinizes the recent development of solar power generation in the US with a special focus on the deployment of various solar technologies in both centralized and rooftop categories.
