Abstract

Solar city represents sustainable city focusing on the utilization of solar energy resources. Turpan demonstration district in china aims at maximizing the value of local natural abundant solar resource and establishing a new energy system and management model by highly integrating solar photovoltaic/thermal, urban planning, green building, climate prediction, intelligent micro-grid, green transportation and other domains. It becomes the first and the largest national new energy demonstration city, the first intelligent photoelectric micro-grid pilot and the first distributed solar power generation pilot in china. Thus, analysis and conclusion of actual operation performance in this project is essential for guiding construction and practice of the similar demonstration area in the future. In this paper, initial planning and design of this project is reviewed including architectural construction, micro-grid system and district heating and cooling (DHC) system. On the base of detailed operational analysis, several innovations and deficiencies are pointed out as well as corresponding improvement measures. The results show that Turpan demonstration district project accord with city planning and submit to scheduled management basically while some remaining problems should be dealt with to gain more decent low-carbon economy and lifecycle net profit.
