Abstract

Since 2017, Harbin Engineering University has admitted and trained a large number of international graduate students in the field of nuclear energy with the support of the Chinese government Atomic Energy Scholarship. In view of the different cultural and academic backgrounds of international students, an education program has been tailored and implemented since the international students enrolled in 2017. When formulating this training plan, it took into account the current situation that international students generally lack professional knowledge of nuclear engineering before their postgraduate studies. This training plan gave full play to the consistent advantages of Harbin Engineering University’s nuclear engineering education and training capabilities, and built a complete nuclear engineering knowledge system in terms of professional basic knowledge. At the same time, referring to some international requirements for the training of master students, the training of students’ practical ability, management ability and nuclear safety culture has been strengthened. A set of master program for overseas postgraduates in the field of nuclear energy engineering has been developed with Chinese characteristics. In the special implementation process, by inviting enterprise instructors to give lectures, organizing students to visit and practice in enterprises, the participation of enterprises into training and students’ understanding of China's nuclear industry have been deepened, and what students have learned is linked with the actual practice of nuclear industry. Corporate mentors introduced nuclear laws and regulations, nuclear safety culture, nuclear security, etc. This paper introduces the curriculum system for international master students in nuclear energy engineering.
