Abstract

In Singapore, the usefulness of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has been recognized and this has resulted in the introduction of ED1 systems such as TRADENET, MEDINET and LAWNET. With CAD/CAM becoming a critical component in many manufacturing activities, an Electronic Graphic Interchange (EGI) service, GRAPHNET was established This allows an Electronic Information Interchange (EH) system to be established for the Tool and Die industry as both data and graphic transactions between customers and suppliers are frequent. This paper lays out the architecture for the development of such an E11 system using IDEF,, a structural design and analysis technique. Detailed discussions of the system specifications and functionality of the proposed E11 system are presented. A generic approach to the development of the EGI translators using Table Definition Files is also discussed.
