Abstract

A patient simulation was created to introduce nursing students to the management of autonomic dysreflexia, a life-threatening complication of spinal cord injury, and the management of distractors. This scenario is described along with the various distractors. Faculty can use this simulation to reinforce knowledge of autonomic dysreflexia, teach management of distractors, and develop clinical judgment. With this one simulation experience, faculty can cover multiple objectives. Expansion of simulation libraries, specifically those including the management autonomic dysreflexia and of distractors, will allow educators to facilitate effective high-fidelity simulated learning experiences.
