Abstract

Background: Agitation is a condition frequently observed in behavior management patients presenting to the emergency department (ED). Despite the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations’ standards for the assessment and monitoring of behavioral health patients, the authors are unaware of a reliable, valid agitation rating scale appropriate for use in the emergency setting.
