Abstract

Poster PresentationPurpose for the ProgramThe purpose of the program is to discuss the use of the Perinatal Orientation Education Program (POEP) from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) as a road map to developing a perinatal nursing residency program.Proposed ChangeTo integrate POEP as an effective and efficient means to develop a residency program.Implementation, Outcomes and EvaluationUse of POEP in our regional perinatal residency program has helped us build a successful program. As a team we looked at what POEP had to offer and adopted the POEP structure. The feedback from our residents, instructors, managers, and physician has shown us that this is a high-quality and effective program.Implications for Nursing PracticeAdoption of AWHONN's POEP will help create a more robust perinatal residency program. It is a high quality, evidence-based program that is considered the gold standard for perinatal education.
