Abstract

A liquid interface reconstruction method that deals with the interface using three-dimensional Young’s theory was developed based on the two-dimensional volume of fluid (VOF) method. An operator non-splitting method of liquid motion is proposed, and a full piecewise liner interface construction (PLIC) VOF method was developed by associating these two parts. The program was compiled, and simulations were compared with the results from FLUENT. Water analog experiment at high velocity was also conducted to verify the algorithm. Results indicate that the method can determine the location and patterns of the liquid interface. Therefore, PLIC-VOF method can be used to track the liquid fronts for mold filling simulation.
