Abstract

Talented students are being quietly neglected in many schools (Ross, 1993). In this article two staff members and two students describe the program of the West Hawaii Explorations Academy, a restructuring effort of Konawaena High School housed at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawai'i The students tell about their previous school experiences, the work they have done at the academy, and their outlook for the future. The university liaison and program director conclude by discussing the role of the environment and the importance of expert mentors in talent exploration and development.
