Abstract

Land disposal or dumping of hazardous wastes poses serious environmental and health hazards: soil and water pollution, gaseous release, and various kinds of contamination. In order to evaluate sites for hazardous-waste landfill, the BRGM has developed two methods for in situ measurements of very low permeability, equal or less than 1.10−9m/s. Both methods need only light equipment and the tests are simple to perform.
