Abstract

A method for the determination of strontium in bone by X-ray fluorescence is described. The strontium content of 33 tibial diaphyses and 7 whole vertebrae are given. The average content was 101 parts per million (p.p.m.) with a s.d. of ±24 p.p.m. The s.d. for an individual sample was calculated to ±8 p.p.m. No significant difference in the strontium content between the tibiae and vertebrae or between the sexes was found when expressed by weight of dry ash. The results are compared to other investigations.
