Abstract

AbstractRotational temperatures were measured in a transitional type hollow cathode, operating at 60 ‐ 150 mA discharge current under 260 ‐ 1060 Pa helium or argon pressure. A method using rotational lines in the 2Σ ‐ 2Σ (0, 0) CN 3883 Å band and the 2Σ ‐ 2Σ (0, 0) N+2 3914 Å band, is described. The dependence of measured rotational temperatures (800 ‐ 1700°K) on gas pressure, discharge current and cathode temperature is discussed.
