Abstract

A simple low pressure chromatography procedure has been developed for the isolation of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from shale oils. PAH and neutral heterocycles are resolved by ring number ( n = 2–4), independent of the presence of alkyl side chains. The method has been applied to shale oils from Condor (Australia) and Green River (USA).
