Abstract
ABSTRACT The paper presents a technique for the determination of the coefficient of permeability variation, V, from quantitative well log analysis without the requirement of expensive coring programs or extensive laboratory effort. The method is an application of the improved empirical relationships proposed by Coats and Dumanoir (1973) in which the permeability index is derived as a function of porosity, resistivity at irreducible water saturation, hydrocarbon density and rock type. Field examples illustrate the application of this new approach and the results obtained for a wide variety of lithologies.
