Abstract
A rationale for the use of square-wave analysis for the detection of tissue devitalisation is presented. The method consists of applying constant-current high-frequency square waves to muscle, and monitoring alterations in the waveform due to tissue elements. The maximum amplitude of the altered wave, and the time required for the altered wave to achieve 90% of its maximum height, appear to correlate well with tissue damage.
