Abstract
To the Editor: —Some months ago you were kind enough to publish a paper of mine on the detection of lactosuria (The Journal, June 2, p. 1773). With regard to the technic therein described, I should like to add that it will be found to be of advantage to mix the urine, before boiling, with the same amount of peptone water, which is procurable in all bacteriologic laboratories; or a small amount (1 per cent) of sugar-free peptone powder, such as Witte peptone, may be added direct to the urine instead of the peptone water. This greatly facilitates the growth of the bacteria used in the method and also facilitates the production of gas. This small technical detail was mentioned in all my previous articles on the mycologic detection of various sugars in the urine, but unfortunately was left out in the paper I sent to you.
