Abstract

We report for the first time the use of the singlet oxygen sensor green for the evaluation of the generation of singlet oxygen from fullerenes and gold hybrids. The ratiometric response of the sensor with a series of fullerene derivatives was investigated. Μono adducts of C60 and C70 decorated with various functional groups and a terminal thiol group were coupled with gold nanoparticles. The forbidden singlet-to-triplet transition that manifest in a singlet oxygen generation was investigated before and after the addition of gold nanoparticles. We also studied the Lu3N@C80, functionalized with a pyrene group albeit without a terminal thiol.
