Abstract
1. The kinetics of the hydrolysis of methylal in aqueous solutions of sulfuric acid was investigated by the method of gas-liquid chromatography. 2. A linear dependence of the logarithm of the effective rate constant of the reaction, calculated according to first order, on the Hammett acidity function H0 was demonstrated. 3. The kinetic isotopic effect in solutions of 10% and 20% H2SO4 at 25° is equal to three. 4. The hydrolysis of methylal proceeds according to an A-1 mechanism.
