Abstract

Ce-doped yttrium orthosilicate is a blue phosphor in a non-sulfur-containing phosphor triad for FED displays. Its low luminous efficiency does not allow one to achieve a necessary light output. We have synthesized a modified yttrium orthosilicate, non-sulfur-containing blue phosphor and fabricated various 4″ phosphor screens with superior performance. This performance is significantly better than that of Nichia 1047 phosphor. Based on this blue phosphor and phosphor screen performance, a white light output of 4.5–5 lm/W becomes possible in FED displays. This light output is drastically higher than that of compatible AMLCD displays.
