Abstract

In this paper, we propose a miniaturized dual-band electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna with conformal radiation pattern. The designed antenna operates in the bands from 2.3 GHz to 2.53 GHz and from 2.8 GHz to 3.7 GHz. Antenna is capable of 360◦ beam steering in steps of 60◦. The antenna design consists of six folded monopoles and a conical center element. Folded monopoles are used to reduce the antenna size by reducing the height of parasitic monopoles to λ/12. Thus, the designed antenna is three times smaller than the conventional ESPAR antennas. The active element is made conical in shape in order to improve the antenna bandwidth. The proposed design is not only smaller than its conventional counterparts but it also supports dual band operations. In-spite of the compact design peak antenna gain is 6.3 dBi, this gain is equivalent to the conventional ESPAR antenna gain.
