Abstract

A synthesis approach for designing a high-quality normal-incidence antireflection (AR) coating over the visible spectral region is proposed. The design method based on a recurrence search algorithm is straightforward and the resulting AR performance is relatively high. It was shown that the average visible spectral reflectivity over the 400–750 nm region of the final design, obtained by the recurrence search method for a two-material multilayer system, can be reduced to lower than 0.047%, that the maximum visible reflectivity can be reduced to less than 0.16%, and that the residual reflectivity in the 430–740 nm region can be reduced to less than 0.10%.
