To achieve miniaturization and function integration of the telemetry radar antenna, multi-channel analog and digital circuits are integrated into a single receiver unit called Digital Receiver Module (DRM). To fulfill the real-time transmission of baseband data, optical fiber is applied as the transmission medium. The above two points make it impossible to measure key indicators of DRM rely only on traditional microwave instruments. Automatic Test System (ATS) based on LXI architecture with functions of command sending, baseband data receiving and instrument control is designed as a solution. Multi-channel signal routing link is established by dividers and microwave switches, so that all channels of DRM can be tested in parallel. Optical fiber transceiver is exploited not only to send synchronous commands, but also to receive and record baseband data. Signal processing methods dedicated to the specific characters of DRM are designed to analyze key indicators from baseband data, such as receiving gain, noise figure and instantaneous dynamic range. Automatic test software and signal processing methods are implemented using VS2005. Through practical application, the obtained results are completely consistent with the design baseline. Besides, on the premise that communication interference and temperature change are included in the test results, the maximum deviation of receiving gain is ±0.21dB and the maximum deviation of noise figure is ±0.23dB within five discrete measurements, which could demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the ATS.

Low-cost alternate EVM test for wireless receiver systems
  • Jan 1, 2005
  • A Halder + 1 more

In digital radio applications, error-vector-magnitude (EVM) is the primary specification which quantifies the performance of digital modulation implemented in silicon. Production testing of EVM incurs high cost of test instrumentation in automated test equipment (ATE). For EVM testing of wireless receivers, the ATE must include an RF transmitter having (1) the required digital modulation capability, (2) transmitter parameter configurability via test automation software and (3) higher performance and accuracy compared to the receiver-under-test. In this paper, an alternate test methodology for the EVM specification is proposed that eliminates the need for high cost RF sources with digital modulation capability. A sequence of multi-tones generated using low-cost RF sources is used as test stimuli. The EVM specification is computed (predicted) by analyzing the degradation of the test signal by the receiver modules (e.g. LNAs, mixers, filters) by means of the observed waveforms in the baseband. Simulation results are presented.

  • Ying-Chun Shang + 1 more

Aimed at the characteristics of permafrost temperature influencing the safety of Qinghai-Tibet Railway and its on-line testing system, comparing the achievement of permafrost study nationwide with those worldwide, an automatic testing system of permafrost temperature, containing a master computer and some slave computers, was designed. By choosing high-precise thermistors as temperature sensor, designing and positioning the depth and interval of testing sections, testing, keeping and sending permafrost temperature data at time over slave computers, and receiving, processing and analyzing the data of collecting permafrost temperature over master computer, the change of the permafrost temperature can be described and analyzed, which can provide information for permafrost railway engineering design. Moreover, by taking permafrost temperature testing in a certain section of Qinghai-Tibet Railway as an instance, the collected data of permafrost temperature were analyzed, and the effect of permafrost behavior was depicted under the railway, as well as, a BP model was set up to predict the permafrost characteristics. This testing system will provide information timely about the change of the permafrost to support the safety operation in Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

Retracted: Study on a method of measuring bioeletromagnetic field
  • Nov 1, 2009
  • Cao Honglong + 5 more

Nowadays, the bioelectromagnetic field has been accepted, and more and more scientists are concerned about the bioelectromagnetic effect from external electromagnetic field. But few scientists study the bioelectromagnetic spectrum, which features may be used to identify the living beings. In this paper, we give a method to measure the bioelectromagnetic field. At first, we study the theory of measuring the bioelectromagnetic signal. Furthermore, we designed an automatic test system (ATS) based on the theory. The automatic test software, an important part of the ATS, which can control the instruments such as spectrum analyzer, poisoning controllers, etc, is introduced by the diagram. Finally, the measurement data are calculated and recorded to a text file, which can be used to analyze the bioelectro-magnetic spectrum. We also display the 3D graph of the bioelec-tromagnetic field vs. each frequency, to study and view the direction of bioelectromagnetic field. The automatic system has been applied in our research about mice's bioelectromegnetic field test, and works well.

Study of jitter generators for high-speed I/O interface jitter tolerance testing
  • Nov 1, 2017
  • Yuki Ozawa + 4 more

This paper proposes two low-cost jitter generators for high-speed I/O interface jitter tolerance testing. (i) The first one uses inter-symbol interference positively with digital control. The proposed circuit consists of mostly digital circuits with small amount of analog circuits (simple RC low-pass filter), and the digital part can be realized using FPGA or high-speed digital unit of an automated test equipment (ATE). (ii) The second one uses a digital AS modulator with some amount of analog circuits, and the digital part can be realized using high-speed digital unit of the ATE; the digital AS modulator can be realized by software on the ATE, and its output controls switches in the analog circuits. Their principles, theoretical analyses and simulation results are presented.

Vector based Analog to Digital Converter sequential testing methodology to minimize ATE memory and analysis requirements
  • Jun 1, 2009
  • Sachin Dileep Dasnurkar + 1 more

Mixed signal circuits typically require more complex specification based testing as compared to digital circuits, which can be completely tested with structural or simple functional tests. Due to the analog nature of some of the internal nodes and external signals in mixed signal circuits, qualitative functional tests may be required to assure circuit performance at all operating points. Mixed signal blocks such as Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) and Digital to Analog Converters (DAC) act as interfaces between the digital processing modules of the System on a Chip (SoC) and interfacing analog domains. These converters are increasingly common on SoCs due to ever-increasing presence of real world analog signals that use the processing capabilities of the digital blocks. High volume production testing of these mixed-signal components is inefficient due to test complications, resulting in the use of high-performance Automatic Test Equipment (ATE). While various Built-in Self Test (BiST) schemes are proposed to provide the analog test stimulus, the conventional histogram analysis method is still in use for the majority of ADC testing applications. We review a proposal for ADC output test involving a functional pattern, effectively resulting in a real-time-code-analysis. Memory and processing constraints for the ATE are reduced as this vector based method is not ATE memory intensive while providing an output quality measure identical to the conventional histogram method.
