Abstract

This paper reports on an experimental investigation of the bursting of small-scale circular cylindrical pressure vessels constructed of mild steel according to marine engineering practice for air receivers. The results are compared with the predictions of theoretical analyses of plastic tensile instability in finite-length cylinders.
