Abstract

This work presents a design of a flux switching permanent magnet (FSPM) motor using ferrite magnets. Achieving a relatively high power of 4 kW using a cheap magnet is the main purpose of this work. The design starts from the general specifications required for the motor requesting a rotor outer diameter of 300 mm and stack length of 100mm. the design is considered for the low voltage applications where a 48 V inverter is considered. The preliminary motor dimensions identified using previous design equations then the FE analysis used to validate the design and to optimize the output power for the given excitation currents. The motor output performance parameters including the output torque, terminal voltages and the probability of demagnetization have been introduced and discussed.
