Abstract

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems enhance channel capacity, diversity and robustness of wireless communication system and it has proved by many recent research results both theoretically and experimentally. The increase demand for higher transmission capacity is driving the research to investigate new ways to improve channel capacity, reliability and diversity gain of communication system. This paper focuses on the design of multi-element microstrip patch antenna array applicable to WLAN/MIMO at 2.45 GHz. Obviously, the performance of multi-element antenna system depends critically on the proper design of the arrays. In this paper we have designed and studied thoroughly the simulated performance results of 2×2 microstrip patch antenna array using IE3D electromagnetic simulator and also the array performances have been compared with that of a single element microstrip patch antenna.
