Abstract

The linear servo system has attracted more and more people’s attention at this stage, In this paper, a novel 12slot-11pole-pairs linear permanent magnet vernier motor (LPMVM) is proposed. Compared with the linear permanent magnet synchronous motor, the main features of the proposed motor are high thrust density and low thrust ripple, which is suitable for high definition numerical control machine tool. Firstly, the basic structure and operation principles of LPMVM are presented. Then, the electromagnetic thrust is derived by analyzing the airgap magnetic field through classical electromagnetic theory. Thirdly, the electromagnetic properties of motors such as permanent magnet flux linkage, no-load back electromotive force, detent force and electromagnetic thrust are analyzed by a simplified three-phase model with a symmetry boundary in the 2-D finite element analysis (FEA).
